The advantages of Google sites, besides the fact that they are free is that they are relatively easy to make and you can make a website with several pages. It is a great way for students to practice getting started on the web.
Te drawback of Goggle Sites is that it is difficult to customize the appearance of your website. There are also only a very limited number of Extensions available for expanding the functionality of your website. Thus, Google sites would not be good for a commercial site. Finally, there is one way to really manage the content if you have a whole bunch of pages. Thus, Google sites are not that good for blogging and/or social networking.
If you are looking at building a website for commercial, social, or educational purposes, you should consider building a Joomla website which is the subject of the next tutorial.
